The Netherlands have a long history of racing-bikes and bike riders.
Some of the brands are really famous, and have a rich history of World and Olympic titles.
With the help of a couple of friends, we will tell you more about the Dutch racing-bikes.

RIH

RIH was formed in 1921 by the Bustraan brothers in Amsterdam Holland.
The name RIH is for the name of an Arabian stallion ridden by one of the characters in a Karl May novel which was very popular at the time
(and still are in Europe).
RIH's first championship was in 1924 when Jan Hijzelendoorn (a butcher) rode a Bustraan
brothers frame to the sprint and 1 kilometer titles in the Dutch National Champions.
In 1928 the firm moved to its present address in Amsterdam Also in 1928 Willem Bustraan Jr joined the business with his father and Uncle.
In 1948 Wim van der Kaaij joined the RIH business as an apprentice, he is the current owner of RIH
It is estimated that RIH frames have been ridden to over 350 national championships in both road and track events and 63 World-
and Olympic titles.

Zieleman

J.J. Zieleman was for over forty years long bike-builder in Amsterdam.
Ko was a man of not so many words, he built on demand a very handsome bicycle, but with the same love he made a shopping bike.
The brand name “Zieleman” was preserved for the real nice racing bikes with all the expensive stuff on them and the rest had the brand name “ Spirit”.
Zieleman lived his whole life in the river quarter in Amsterdam-South.
After his carrier as reasonable amateur he took over the shop from his father.
Ko Zieleman didn’t sponsor groups or riders so everybody needed to buy his bicycle in the shop.
Early Zieleman riders remember Ko as a very easy shop-owner who often made repairs on the Zieleman bikes for free and often gave something away.
Ko was one of the many costume builders in Amsterdam like, RIH, Presto, Jasper Bouma and Joco.
After forty years Ko ended his carrier as builder and shop owner and made an advert in the Bikers-revue in the style he was, not so many words:
“ Ko stops, tools and bikes on sale”
Who has a Zieleman now a days owns a jewel of a bike.

Willem Eindhoven

Half October I bought in a small village close to Rotterdam a "Willem Eindhoven" bike.
Two years ago I saw this bike on a show and loved it right away.
Some how it was still on my mind because of the "suicide sifter".
And when  in it came on sale at the beginning of October I knew I had to have it.
The plan is to bring it back into it's original state.
The paint on the two front tubes is very bad, needs work and I have to restore the hand painted brand name.
